# Additive inverse property
**Let $a$ represent any member of $\mathbb{Z}$. Then there is a unique member of
$\mathbb{Z}$ $-a$ such that:**
$$ a + (-a) = 0 $$
The sum of a number and it's negative (called **the additive inverse**) is
always zero.
